On the road
by 6:50 a.m. this morning, with a quick stop for fuel, we were back on I-10 west
bound. Except for a few miles leaving Deming, the road was smooth. There are a
few construction spots along the route, but no slowdowns.
Traffic was
light going thru Tucson, so we sailed right thru. We made a stop at a Denny’s
for lunch with our good friends Nancy and Ken. A once a year catch up.
We were back
on the road just after 1:00 p.m. and shortly after merge onto I-8, cruising
along for about an hour when all went to pot. We blew another tire on the
trailer, same side but the back one. Damage to the fender skirt and ripped the
fabric under covering. Didn’t break the plywood floor, but there is a lose tile
on the kitchen floor inside.
Once again, I am on the side of the road for 45 minutes, lots of room, changing the tire. I had to use some tuck tape to secure the fender skirt until I can see if I can reattach it.

Not much left. |
Well that sucks, but glad you are safe and sound in Yuma!!
ReplyDeleteYes it does, but thanks.
DeleteGlad you're able to change the tire. A real bummer and I hope you can put things back together. At least you've made it to the end of the line for awhile.
ReplyDeleteI hope so too. Yes, four days here then up to Quartzsite.
DeleteOh bill...we know how you feel...We have faced this same issue a couple times ourselves Not fun, but we all move forward. :) take care and see you sometime this winter.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lori, moving forward is all you can do. I will be replacing the two on the other side before we head home. See you this winter.
DeleteNot a perfect day but it makes us appreciate the good days. I’m happy to hear you all arrived safely.
ReplyDeleteDeb
Thanks Deb.
DeleteTire issues certainly do suck! When we had similar occurrences & decided that was the rig for the next while, I went over the whole issue with the tire dealer & ended up trading all the present tires for upgraded Michelin & didn't have any further problems for the next 4+ years.Surprisingly the increased cost wasn't that much as there was discount when buying that many. You might check that out while in the US as there were better deals to be had there.Trust you will be fine now; enjoy your winter & all the best.
ReplyDeleteThanks, I will definitely be checking on the other tires before we start home.
DeleteSo sorry to hear that Bill. That was a long run down, so if it is any consolation, better it happened at that spot than where it could have been. Glad you are all safe.
ReplyDeleteThanks Duncan, yes could have happened in worse spots.
DeleteWTG on the tire fix! Glad it was managed safely.
ReplyDeleteThank you. We are too.
DeleteAlways a problem having to deal with that on the side of the road.
ReplyDeleteIf you recall we were going through tires more than we'd like. Problem was the Tire Shops were inflating the tires to the maximum pressure listed on the sidewall. The last place told me to run them 5 lbs. less to allow for expansion. There were no further blowouts.
Stay Safe and Enjoy!
It's about time.
I always check and inflate my tires. They are set 15 lbs below the maximum tire pressure.
DeleteWhat a crap happening so close to your destination. Hopefully you get a good replacement.
ReplyDeleteYes it was. Getting a good replacement as I type this.
ReplyDeleteHi Bill, Pat, 'Gibbs': Sorry to hear that you had trouble with a tire! Luckily you were all on a safe strip on the highway; would imagine you had a spare so you could move on to your destination. Guess we learn new things everyday; that means all tires around the trailer should be 5 lb. less. Good luck Bill! J & J
ReplyDeleteYes we carry a spare. My tires are 15 lbs below max air pressure.
