Last Leg Home

Where Are Today

344036 North Line

Priceville, Ontario

HOME

After 5 days sitting at CanAm RV while our trailer was being repaired, we left there Thursday April 16th at 1:30 p.m. on our last leg of the journey home.

We had good roads to travel on and some rain, but when we reached the Ridge, the rain stopped and we were set up in no time.

After settling in, we made a trip next door to our neighbor to get a bladder of water for our fresh water tank, and caught up with there winter .

While filling the water tank, we took in the high water levels around the property, we have never seen the levels this high in all the time we have lived here. There are also many broken tree branches, again more than we have ever seen. It will definitely keep us busy cleaning things up.

Taken from the truck trip meters. Total distance traveled from the time we left home until the time we returned home. That's 14494.7 km, 3130.5 litres of fuel @ 21.6 l/100km.

Or, 9006.6 mi., 827.0 gal. of fuel @ 10.9 mpg.

Of the those total miles the trailer was pulled for 8903.1km. or 5432.1 mi.

In the coming days we will do a break down of the fuel cost going versus coming home.

That's a quick peak at our last day of travel, don't forget to check out Pat's blog HERE for a more detailed write up of our day. Until the next time, take care.

Home - Not Quite

Where Are We Today
CanAm RV, London, Ontario
We are back in Canada, but not quite home yet. Staying at CanAm for the week until we can get into "The Ridge", while here we will get the slide cables looked at, I will work for two days and visit our kids.

Putting 6 large boxes in the trailer

The real reason for this post is an update on my next RC project. Over the winter, I  purchased a kit to build from a company in Arden NC. With plans to pick it up on our way home so as to avoid shipping costs, duty, taxes and brokerage fees,  we arrived there March 28th as per-arranged, the owner was not there, he had been called away to a family emergency. Once we contacted him, he said he would be home the next week and he would ship it to us free of charge. I said I would contact him when he was home.

Boxes in and closed back up.

Here comes the twist, when I spoke to him again, he asked if I would like the proto-type that he had built and flown. I decided to go with that option if he could get to my U.S. mailing address in Port Huron no later than Friday April 6th, so I could pick it up on the 7th before we crossed the border. After checking with FedEx, that it could be there, he packed it up and shipped it.

The picture doesn't show how big it really is.

We arrived at Blue Water shipping Saturday morning at 9:30 and picked up 6 huge boxes, a little taken back at the number and size, I know it is a big plane but still. We managed to get them in the trailer and then headed for the border where we were across in about 5 minutes.
Once setup at CanAm, I opened the boxes and without removing the bubble wrap, checked each piece for damage. Once we are home I will unwrap and post pictures of its size.
Thanks for the reading along, until the next time stay safe and take care.

The Last Leg Home

Where Are We Today
Home
After two weeks of CanAm camping, we finally made it to " The Ridge " where we call home for the time we spend in Canada. Many thanks to the great people at CanAm RV for tucking us in for the past two weeks.

Sunrise

As this was the last leg of our journey home, it is time for my last road rating for our travels. The main roads travelled on Friday were Hwy's 401, 19, 86, 6 & 4. All put together, I am giving them an average of 8 out of 10.
Frosty morning

Fired up our new generator

As I did last year , here are some statistics of mileage and  fuel for our winter. Since we left last Oct. 24, 2017, we have travelled 16663.7 km./10354.3 mi., used 3620.1 liters/956.3 gal. of diesel fuel with an average of21.7 l/100km/ 10.8 mpg. We travelled farther this winter than last winter with a .3 mpg better fuel avg.

Getting Ready for Winter

WHAT ARE WE UP TO TODAY?
This post is a few days behind. Last weekend was the time to start getting ready for the coming winter. Saturday morning was spent running around doing errands. Saturday afternoon we spent cleaning out the trailer, making sure that anything that would freeze was brought inside. Oh did I mention that we slept in the trailer both Friday and Saturday nights, we do love the great night's sleep on the KING size bed.

Sunday was spent cleaning out the shed of the winter stuff, you know, the snow blower and snow tires, and putting away the summer stuff. The snow blower started right off the bat. Being such a nice day I even got the Christmas lights strung across the front of the house. All of the patio furniture was put away and the filter for the pond was cleaned and put away. This is the first year we don't have fish in the pond, so there was no need to put the net over it to keep the herons from getting at the fish and no need for the pond heater. Another thing different this year was to cover the gazebo on the back deck. It has season panels on it's roof that are suppose to withstand the winter. The last two winters in a row we have lost panels due to strong winds. This year I bought a tarp and covered it to hold the panels in, so we will see what happens.

Pond all ready

Driveway rearranged

Christmas lights up
On to the driveway and rearrange the cargo trailer so I can get the truck up further in the drive. This helps with clearing the driveway of snow with the blower.

Finally, to some of the leaves along the gutter at the street. Picked up about three bags, but there will be more before we're done. All in all it was a productive weekend, glad to have done what we have so far.

Next weekend will see the snow  tires put on the car , so we will be ready   for what is coming.

Thanks for stopping by, until the next time, take care.
