Where Did the Jello Settle

Where Are We Today

Davis Camp Park

Bullhead City, Arizona

Here is where the Jello settled, Davis Camp Park, Bullhead City Arizona. We have seen this park many times, but have never camped here before. We have a membership park here but need to book 3 days in advance to get in, so we will spend two nights here then move a couple of miles to the membership park for 5 nights.

Sunrise behind us

This morning we left the Fire Rock Casino at 6:45 a.m., continuing our trek across I-40. Twenty-two miles down the road we crossed into Arizona, hitting about 100 miles of the roughest section of I-40 so far, after that we had sections of new pavement and fairly smooth older sections. It is great to see that all the states we have passed thru are now repairing I-40, this is the best I have seen it since we started coming down here in 2016.

We were still at elevations over 7000 ft today, travelling across the upper plains, thru The Petrified Forest, Winslow, (Standing on the Corner in Winslow Arizona, by The Eagles), The Coconino Forest, the Kaibab Forest and the Navajo Indian Territory. Eventually we arrived in Kingman where we leave I-40 for State Hwy 68 to Bullhead. There is a significant drop in elevation and then a rise before the 12 mile drop into Bullhead, where trucks must reduce their speed to 50 mph, this is a 6% grade of twist and turns. Looking down into the valley, you can see where Bullhead lays along the Colorado River, which divides Arizona and Nevada. Across the river you can pick out the casinos on the other side in Laughlin, Nevada.

  1. Good old I-40. We have traveled many a mile on that one. We never did make it to Bullhead City.

  2. Sounds like a good days drive. Nice to know there are improvements happening along I 40, we’ve been thinking of that route again, maybe heading home. Enjoy your stay. It’s nice to sit for a few days.

    1. Yes a good days drive. Nice improvements. The only thing I have against this route is the elevations and the winds sure play havoc on your fuel mileage. Certainly will enjoy a few days of rest.

  5. Great Trip and narrative for those of us wishing! And I am sure you are glad to get to warmer climes. But I always wonder why all the Canadian folks seem to dive way South, then turn and head for AZ. Seems like it would be a couple hundred miles shorter to somehow skirt around Detroit and Chicago and then head toward Salt Lake or at least Denver. Then turn South? Is it the highways, mountains or you want to get warm first? Thanks for the narrative.

    1. Thanks Don, as to answer your question, we have gone thru Denver and up the 11,000 ft climb over the mountains and into Utah. Almost went a similar direction this year. The highways are good, that mountain route is also good, but make sure you have fuel, there are no truck stops going over so you have to get into a town and hope they have room for you to pull up to the pumps with your rig. There is also the weather, Denver has already had snow this past week. It is a little longer to go across and then down, we tend to angle our way across Ohio, Indiana, Missouri to Oklahoma and decide to keep going west for awhile or angle across Texas, New Mexico and then Arizona, depending on where we want to be. Hope that helps explain our travel route.
