Quartzsite
Arizona
We finally
made it to Quartzsite Az, our winter home for the next 5 months.
In my last post, I said that we had ordered new
tires from Simple Tire and that they would be delivered to Southern Tire Mart
for installation. We thought we were finally at the end of our tire saga. Twenty-four
hours later, we were out shopping in Yuma when I got an email from Simple Tire
saying that they cancelled order because they were unable to process your
payment with the information provided, and had issued a refund. What NOW!
Payment had
been made through PayPal; there shouldn’t have been a problem. When we got home,
I called to see what the actual problem was. The answer was, the screening
company didn’t like that the billing address was our home address in Canada and
the delivery address was in Yuma. We have paid for numerous items this way and
never had a problem. They offered to take a new order over the phone but I declined,
saying I would do some more research.
I went back on Simple Tire’s web site took look at the
tire I had ordered and could not find them, but did find others. Next, I called
Southern Tire Mart, because when I visited the location before placing the original
order, they gave me a quote on a different tire to consider. I asked if they
had any other that they would recommend and said yes, they liked a Hankook
trailer tire, they have it in stock but it was a little more expensive than the
other one. This was Tuesday, we were leaving on Friday. I asked if they could
do the work on Friday morning, yes, they can, okay I’ll be there by nine a.m.

Some history of weight since we started our
travelling. Our first year I weighed us soon after crossing the border, full
tank of fuel and our 100-gallon fresh water tank was full, that put us 400 lbs.
over on the trailer axles. From then on, we only travel with between 25 to 50
gallons of water.

| Weight this morning,10/31/2025 |
| This is the re-weigh today with only one side of the trailer on the scale, axle weight is 8040lbs. |
Sometimes things happen as they should. I’ll bet these are the tires you’re meant for! Glad it’s sorted and you're safely at your winter home.
ReplyDeleteYes, I would agree, thanks.
ReplyDeleteFunny my mind automatically said sofa bed removal too.
ReplyDeleteHopefully the new tires and a little adjustment to the weight distribution will fix your problem. Did they check old ones for any sign of wear? I would have been curious to inspect them closely.
I’m happy all is well, peace of mind is so important, now you can relax and enjoy your winter play time!

Hey Bill, I've read your brides blog for some time. I enjoy the way she writes. Your Mudflap App really peaked my curiosity as I thought it was only for fleets. How do you like it - is it easy to use? Any information about it that you'd be willing to share would be much appreciated. Also, only my, somewhat useless, opinion - but I'm really glad you opted for the Hankook tires....David Bain
ReplyDeleteHi David. I like the Muudflap app. It will show you fuel stops in your area. When you get to the one show want ,you ask the app for a fuel code . Depending on the station, you will either enter the code at the pump or go inside and show it. The app will tell you either way.. Pump your fuel and you will get a receipt by email. When you set up your Mudflap account, you decide how you want to pay, either a chequing account or credit card. It automatically takes the payment. If using credit there is a fee. The savings vary from place to place, could only be a few cents or a much as .70 cents per gallon. It isn't just one company but several, not Loves or Flying J. You also have to use the truck pumps, not the regular pumps for cars. It doesn't cost anything to join, use it or don't. Hope this helps.
DeleteThanks Bill, yes that really helps. Thanks again.
