Where Are We Today
Grove Oklahoma
We have all heard that
comment, the GPS took me down the wrong way or something to that effect. I use
our GPS, which I find to be very accurate, when going somewhere new along with
checking Google maps.
I-35N |
If you read Pat's blog
about our drive here to Grove, you would have read about three off the route
turns, I cannot blame the GPS.
To start off with, I
turned left onto US-81 instead of right, like the GPS said to. Thinking it
would be quicker to go back an exit to get onto I-40, then driving through El
Reno. But, doing this, we were going away from I-40, so started following the
GPS.
It took us on OK-3 to I-35N, which got us around/ through Oklahoma City. Then onto OK-33E to OK-48N to OK-51 E into Tulsa where we joined up with US-64E/US-412E/US-75/I-244E.
At this point, we were looking for a Flying J with a Denny's so we could get something to eat and fuel up. We found one at N129th street just off I-244E. Having satisfied both food and fuel, we were ready to get back on the road. Normally, where you get off at an exit, there is the ramp to get back on, not in this case. Second mistake with the GPS, if I had looked at when coming out of the Flying J, I would have seen it telling me to turn left to get onto I-44E, as you could not get back onto US-412E/ I-244E at N129th street to get to I-44E.

US-59N |
I got ourselves turned
around and back down past the Flying J and onto I-44E. A few miles down the
road and I'm about to make my third and final error of the day. Of course I'm
following the GPS, which is taking us to our destination, but we would travel on a
toll road, which I didn't want to do. So,
once again we were getting turned around
back to I-412 E to Alt. 412E to US-59 and into Grove.
US-59N |
Not one of these errors
were the fault of the GPS, if I had followed it in the first place, it would
have taken us to our destination as long as I remembered to get off at I-412E
like I had planned to do.
Our Destination |
Travelling all those roads from the start to
Tulsa was sure the scenic route, but a pleasant drive. As far as what my road
ratings are for these roads, I am going to go with an 8 to 9 out of 10 for all.
There was one of the towns we went through that was more like a 7 out of 10,
but your speed was at 30 mph and didn't really effect you much. As interesting
as the route was, we probably wouldn't take it again, but stick to the
interstate.
Thanks for following
along, until the next time, take care and be safe. Your comments are always
welcome.
I have to admit my GPS has not been wrong yet. Took me on a roundabout way once or twice but I got there. Glad it was a pleasant drive - except where you missed the turns. Lol
ReplyDeleteYes a pleasant drive, I should have followed the GPS from the start.
DeleteUsually "Hazel" gets us to our destination. When we make a wrong turn, after some thought, she very calmly comes up with a new way. Glad you enjoyed the ride or as we like to call it "the adventure". (LOL) We have also said at the end of one of those adventures, nice ride lets not do that again.
ReplyDeleteYes a nice drive and will not do it again.
DeleteI find my Canadian TOMTOM GPS is spot on but the other two GARMIN have trouble with right and left. I have no idea if it's a glitch in the system or what it is. I will say that each time they make an error they do get us back on the road we need to be on but with the Igloo attached it's not always an easy fix. I know the right and left is for fact as we our GPS talk to us and we will replay it to ensure we heard correctly (not always time for this though if the turns come quickly together) but as we approach the turn they will correct themselves. A number of times our destination is 'on the left' when it's actually on the right, or vice versa. Which makes me think it's a glitch in the software. However all three will eventually get us to where we want to go, not perhaps by the route I wanted but we still arrive.
ReplyDeleteRiley can't 'read' a map and will not even look at Google so I basically have no navigator to help me get back on track. So I've been inputting a trip planner on the RV GPS before we head out and I try to have a look at GOOGLE as well. I can't write the whole thing out, I don't have a printer and so I often take pictures with my phone of the directions. Riley can then read them to me while we move.
An adventure to be sure, and though you may not take it again, you can at least say to someone, "Oh I know that place, we went through there once when PATSY got us lost." Hahaha....
Enjoy Grove City.
ha ha, thanks Deb. btw, I DO read comments on Bill's post too! :) We were both to blame this time, not either gps.
DeleteWe actually have two GPS and they both agree with each other in most ways. The truck GPS, you can not look ahead to see the route, on Pat's GPS, you can. It tells you the turns and Road numbers, but not a picture like a map. Pat brings her laptop with her and we can bring up Google maps to actually see a map. If we don't like what the GPS is saying we can then alter our route. The first part of today's route with all the different roads was a combination of the GPS and the Google map.Yes an adventure and we can say " have been there", that's what this journey is about after all, is to explore.
DeleteHey, you should have said it was all intentionally to see some other routes so the trip doesn't become boring. We know the frustration of clocking unnecessary miles, happens to all of us sooner or later.
ReplyDeleteYes, I could have said that, but then it wouldn't be as interesting story. This one wasn't boring or frustrating and really not many additional miles. Hopefully it won't happen to often.
