Where Are We Today

Our
Route On Day Nine
We
left our campsite outside of Moab UT at 9:00 a.m. M/T, once again westward
bound. Travelling Hwy 191 north to Hwy 70 west on steady climb up to 7826 feet
before starting a downward run to 5266 feet just before we turned onto Hwy 15
South.
Around 12:30 p.m. we pulled into a Flying J for fuel, I hadn't even
started to pump when the mechanic from the tire shop suggest I take a look at
the front passenger side trailer tire, it was starting to come apart, and with
closer look at the rear one it was showing signs of the same. Taking a look at
the other side, there were indications of those two starting to break down. So
four new tires were needed and they got to work right away on them. Once the
first two tires were off they noticed that the shocks weren't the best, so all
four shocks were replaced. Three fellows went to work and 45 minutes later they
were all done. These guys were sure accommodating, getting us in right away and
explaining Eagles Landing Truck Plaza in Beaver Utah. The tires are 4 years old
with few miles on them, but age and sitting for long periods of time are not
good for them. Someone was watching out for us today.

My road rating for all roads today is a 9 out of 10, except for a short distance on Hwy I 70 where we were down to one lane for construction, I give it a 8.5 out of 10.
After
a quick bite to eat we were on our way, coming to the end of Utah and into
Arizona for about 28 miles until we hit Nevada. We were headed for Mesquite
Nevada to the Casa Blanca Casino where they had free RV parking for the night.
Enjoying
supper at the casino and free entertainment in one of the lounges, we listen to
an Elvis impersonator until about 9:30 p.m. P/T before calling it a night and
heading back to the suite to try and write this post. My eyes are half closed
so I hope it looks alright.

ReplyDeleteYes, I have seen what damage can be done when they blow. Didn't see the bad spot in my morning walk around, so glad the mechanic saw it when we stopped.

DeleteI have debated all day about posting this but believe I must. That tire shop has a long history of pulling that scam. Google "beaver utah tire shop" and read the SLC Tribune articles. Also go to RV.net forums and search for posts regarding this shop. Please have a reputable tire shop check to make sure you have what you need under your home
ReplyDeleteHi Corky, thank you for your concern, I understand about whether to say something or not. I did the search that you suggested and both my wife and I felt sick. I have looked up the tires on line and the shocks and feel that they are alright, but I will also get them checked at a dealer as you suggested. Two of the old tires, the tread was coming apart, strips had come off. The other two looked like there was separation in the tread and one did have the start of a bulge. After looking up online prices, that is where there could be a rip off. Our trailer is heavy and if the old tires which have sat more than they have rolled were starting to go, we feel new tires were in order. We will definitely get them checked out. Again thank you for your comment.

ReplyDeleteWhat axles do you have on your unit?? They look like Dexters but I couldn't be sure. And what brand tires did you have installed? I am always concerned about getting some darned Chinese tires.

Hi Don: we have a Mor/ryde independent torsion bar axle system on our trailer. Unfortunately the tires are Roadlux made in China. If you look at the comment up above yours from Corky, you will see what we ran into. The tires differently needed to be replaced and have the same ratings as are old ones. I think we got scammed on the price. How do you know, our safety is what is important.
