What Do You Know
Two Days In A Row
Another travel day across I-40 East,
our goal today was Amarillo Tx. We headed out at 9:00 a.m. with bright blue
skies and light traffic.
We stopped for fuel a couple of times
and one rest stop to make lunch. It has been a windy drive with the winds in
the 35 MPH range and gusts to 45 MPH, but we held the road well, not like some
of the transports going by and drifting a foot or more in the wind.

We pulled into the Texas Travel Centre on the east side of Amarillo at 5:30 p.m. Central Time, yes a time zone change. The winds are heavy as I write this at 7:30 p.m. CTZ, there have been heavy storm warnings for west of Amarillo with up to 60 MPH winds, rain lightning and hail possible. We are getting just the winds and hopefully that's all, as they say the storm is tracking north east.
That's about it from me, tomorrow we
will track east some more but with a shorter travel day. Until the next time,
take care and be safe.
the winds are nasty by times for sure. So glad you are able to handle the winds you have faced and are safe... look forward to tomorrows read, Till then, just know you are in our thoughts and prayers as you continue east.
ReplyDeleteThanks guys, will keep in touch.
DeleteYou making good time, enjoy the journey and travel safe.
ReplyDeleteThanks George, may change plans for Friday, high wind warning from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.
DeleteBill,I have same rig as you and have to open slides to use washroom and kitchen also, do you find it necessary to deploy all or some your jacks when you are making a quick stop for a break?

DeleteIt sounds like you had a day of fighting the wind. We remember the wind coming through there, at one rest stop Tom had to come around and hold the door so I could get out and then back in. At least, we did not have bad storm warnings besides. Hope you and Patsy are tucked in safe and sound.
ReplyDeleteYes we have moved on from Amarillo after last night and more coming today. I had to do the same and hold the door for Pat.
DeleteThat southern route home this time of year is a bit of a crap shoot with the seasons changing making weather patterns totally unpredictable. We dodged a tornado one time in Hope Arkansas and another time we waited out a big storm for a couple days in Texas. Plowed through some heavy duty rains and narrowly missed a bad freezing rain storm just west of Memphis one time. Guess it's why we kinda prefer the northerly route for heading home now.
ReplyDeleteWill consider the northern route in the future. We are a bit early as we changed plans in Bullhead City. We were going to go home thru Vancouver, as we have friends there that we haven't seen in 6 years, but with the weather they are having up the west coast we decided not go that way.
