Yuma, Arizona
The title
summed up how I felt and still feel at the moment, after 100 miles into our
journey this morning.

| The water puddle is from the frig water line, it got cut by the tire. |
We blew another tire on the trailer. Not the oldest one, which I would have suspected to go next, but the first one out of the four, that blew on our way home in the spring of 2024. Checking the mileage, this tire had 9872.5 mi./15888.2 km. on it. We were on I-8 W on one of the smoothest sections of the road we travelled on today. We started out on I-10 W for about 35 miles before getting onto I-8, rating both at an 8 out of 10.

Having said that, I am at a loss as to why and feeling almost defeated. At the time it happened, I felt like leaving it there on the side of the road and head for home, took a breath and carried on.

We arrived at our destination around 12:30 pm and got set up. I will admit, that I was on pins and needles hoping another wouldn’t blow before we got stopped and I get this one replaced. There is only a little damage, which I can take care of.
Although we
have checked to see if there is any mis-alignment, when we get home, I think it
needs to go to a shop and checked on a machine. I am also going to talk to my
tire guy about putting truck tires on, instead of trailer tires.
That’s it for
now, thanks for stopping by, don’t forget to check out Pat’s blog .Here

I would strongly advise you to go to a higher rated tire like a truck tire but that is a bigger investment. Have you ever used an infrared thermometer to check the temps on your tires? Not sure what temp would be recommended for a normal trailer tire. Obviously the tires are not doing well with the loading. Alignment problems should show wear before they blow don't you think?? I feel for you as you try to make sense of it in your head.
ReplyDeleteIn my opinion, you might want to consider changing out the other two so you will have four new tires for the return home. If I read your article correctly you still have one on there that you kind of thought might go and didn’t - plus one more. You don’t need the anxiety on the way home of worrying about the other tires. If the specs on the tire you bought earlier in the week are good then see about three matches; otherwise, change them all for something higher rated. You have been incredibly fortunate you have been able to get the rig safely stopped and off the road without major incident.
ReplyDeleteAgree with Lorne and Duncan. Have you weighed the axles lately? So sorry you are having so much trouble.
ReplyDeleteOur issues are the refrigerator. Our last trip to Tucson the refrigerator quit working...
ReplyDeleteagain. I was ready to pack up and head to Sacramento. Fortunately Jerry isn't as reactive. He figured out the problem and we enjoyed our visit. But i understand your ferlings.

DeleteSo sorry to hear this happened to you guys. Glad to hear you are safely at Yuma Lakes.
ReplyDeleteAfter blowing tires on our 5th wheel my husband went to LT truck tires, the best thing that we ever did. Janet 🇨🇦
ReplyDeleteHave you had your rig weighed at each wheel position? DRV products are heavy and easy to overload. Do you run 16” wheels or 17.5? If 17.5” maybe go from H rated to a J rating.
ReplyDeleteSorry for your troubles but glad you are safe. I think truck tires might be the way to go, also I think you should have it weighed, it sounds like it might be a weight distribution issue. Since you are already in Yuma, there are weigh scales around and many tire companies , as well as RV dealerships, make use of their knowledge before you leave the area. If you are going to replace anything, get as much input as possible before you buy another tire. Asking is free.
ReplyDeleteYou are all safe, there was minimal damage that you can repair yourself, you will be in the area for a few days anyway to rest and do your errands. It could be much, much worse. We all understand what you are feeling. There are brighter days ahead Bill.

When we were going through tires like crazy, the Tire Shop in Deming NM told us to lower our air pressure by Five Pounds below the maximum. We made it to Quartzsite and Home without any further problems. I did mention this to you before.
ReplyDeleteStay Safe!
It's about time.
Hi Bill, sorry to hear of your tire difficulties. When travelling to Florida one year we had similar issues-once arrived we checked the tire manufacturers websites for promotions & found Michelin had a very good deal, then approached a tire shop that carried Michelin-they seemed unaware of the deal but checked >then
ReplyDeletewith allowance for the old tires =5 new upgrade rating new tires & no further problems. Perhaps you will be able to find a similar arrangement; all the best.
I feel your pain as we have been broken down on the side of the road several times.
ReplyDeleteTire brand and date of manufacture???
ReplyDeleteSo close . I like the idea of upgrading your tires.
