Flag Poles

Where Are We Today

Arizona sunrise

Still here at Imperial Dam LTVA, in California. I had to go back and check my last post, to make sure I didn't say we were in Arizona. A bit of a geography lesson, Arizona and California are divided by the Colorado River. The Imperial Dam is part of the Colorado River System. When we entered the area we came from the Arizona side of the river, before you know it, you are across the river and into California and the LTVA area. Being so close to Arizona, everyone here is still on Mountain Time and not Pacific time.
Today is  Saturday, I think, just a minute while I check, yup sure enough it is. Not that it really matters, when you don't have to be anywhere, one day is like the next, living the dream and having fun. Sorry, no not really, I am not trying to rub it in to you working stiffs or those that just can't seem to find away to do the same, but this is a great life.
Since my last post, other than relaxing, we did go into Yuma AZ. with Pat's sister Gayle and B-I-L John for the day on Thursday. Between laundry for them, a haircut for me and some shopping for various items we had a good time.
One of the items I wanted to get were two flag poles that mount to the ladder at the back of the Suite. I had seen these at the Arizona Market the last time we were there, so went back and had another look.  Yes these will do, so I bought them. Today, I attached the brackets and put the 23 foot telescopic poles up with new flags on each one.

After that , our neighbor Rob was doing a little job on his trailer so went over to give him a hand, or at least be the fresh air inspector and throw in my two cents worth.
With that taken care of, it was soon time for "happy hour" , the four of us solved some more of the world's problems before heading in for supper.

Every once in awhile, I take the"happy hour" picture, just so you know that Pat is here.

There you have it, another day of mostly sunshine and living the dream. Thanks for following along and until the next time, take care and be safe.

Retirement, Great Gig if You Can Get It

Where Are We Today

We arrived here at Imperial Dam, LTVA, (long term visitors area) yesterday after a short 40 minute drive, found the Quail Hill area and set up near our friends Rob and Pat. Spent a relaxing day reading and then the four of us got together for "happy hour".

Sunrise

Today the sun rose with promising skies for the day, mother nature didn't let us down, clear blue bright skies, with a high of 70*F, but in the sun it felt more like 80.
After a few little jobs this morning,( you can read about at Pat's blog ) Here, I decided to get my quad copter out and take a few aerial shots of the area.

That would be me doing the piloting thing

Then it was time to sit and relax, start a new book and enjoy the sun. I haven't picked up a book to read in quite a few years, but in the last week and a half, I have read two and starting my third. Good author, so I am enjoying the read.
Happy hour with Rob and Pat today, we told stories, laughed and had a good time. Tomorrow we are off to Yuma with Gayle and John to do some grocery shopping and whatever.

Another beautiful sunsetHere

Thanks for following along, until the next time, take care and be safe.

New Years Eve

Where Are We Today
Felicity California

Today is Dec. 31st, New Years Eve, the last day of a very exciting year in our lives. Retirement, selling our house and going full time RVing has certainly been a big change.
We decided today, to take a drive and explore a little of the area. First we started down Sidewinder Road until the pavement ended and came across the cemetery pictured below, there are no names of any kind on the markers, so have no idea who is buried here.

Cemetery out in the desert

We retraced our steps and took the service road along the Hwy into Felicity, which has the CHP ( highway patrol) office and a museum on the history of granite.

This is called "Stairway to Heaven"

It is part of the museum
Continuing on to the next interchange and Olgiby Rd., where we remember  Al were camped somewhere out in the free area of the desert. We decided to take a drive and find the town Gold Rock Ranch that Al had mentioned in his post, found it we did. Turning around and heading back to  Hwy 8 and back towards camp was the route we took.

Pat's sister Gayle had sent a text that they had friends camped out in the free area behind where we are staying, and that we should look them up, so we did. Had a short visited before we headed back to camp, I am sure we will meet up again.
The sun was out after a cloudy start to the day and Pat was off to the pool for a quick dip before happy hour. At the " it's 5 o'clock somewhere time" we gathered at our place for another fun time. Before you knew it, it was supper time.

There was a social hour and karaoke night planned for the evening but we decided to stay home and asked Pat and Rob to come over to ring in the new year with us.  At 10:00 pm our time we watched the ball drop in times square and celebrated the New Year.

Gerry and Melinda stopped in on their way back from the clubhouse to wish us a Happy New Year also, so with drinks in hand we toasted all over again.
That brings close to another great day her in the south west, a great year of exciting times and changes and the start of another year.
As I write and post this blog it is New Years Day, bright and sunny, which I hope indicates the year ahead. To all who follow along, Happy New Year and all the best in 2017.
I do read all comments made, so feel free to leave one. Until the next time, take care and be safe.
