Rock Glen Weekend

WHAT ARE WE UP TO TODAY?
August 24th,2014
The weekend started Thursday night for Pat and our friend Brenda as I had to work on Friday. So after I had the trailer set up, I left the girls to enjoy the night and Friday before I returned.
Brenda and Clemson settling in for a night of relaxing.

Two bathing beauties by the pool, soaking in the sun.

Saturday brought another beautiful day but unfortunately Brenda had to leave us.

It was a great warm and starry night, spent with friends and good music. Sunday morning brought a few clouds and closing down our weekend camping. So after saying our goodbyes to George and Susie, we headed for home to get ready for work tomorrow.

Thanks for stopping by. Until the next time, take care.

WHAT ARE WE UP TO TODAY?
August 14th,2014

We were up and after saying our goodbyes to Ken and Nancy on the road by 9 am. We had a good drive down to Grand Rapids where we made another quick stop at Camping World. On or way again with an easy drive all the way to the border. It was about3:20 pm. when we came across the bridge at Port Huron/Sarnia and cleared customs at 4:00 pm. We had planed on stopping in Petrolia to see our sister-in-law, Mary Beth. It was a nice but short visit to catch up with each other. She is finally getting her garage built and the footings were being poured when we were there.

On our way again, we were home by 7 pm and it didn't take long to get backed in and unload what we had to for the night.

It was a great week away, but after a long day we were soon ready for bed. This pretty well sums up our Silver Lake adventure and we are looking forward to next years time down there.
Until the next time, thanks for stopping by and take care.

WHAT ARE WE UP TO TODAY?
August 13th,2014

Another beautiful day here at Silver Lake. Today we decided to show Ken and Nancy the Hart Historical District Museum. Almost everything here as been donated and the people who look after it are volunteers. There is a little bit of everything here to see, from mechanical dolls, household items, trucks and cars to an log cabin, one room school house, a church an old feed mill.
Entrance to the museum, guided tour is only $8.00/person.

 One of many doll houses.
Ken and I with the 1930 something Ford truck and below the old fire engine, by the way, they both still run and will be used in the up coming Labor Day parade.

There is quite a display of stuffed wild life and fishing gear, old tools both hand and mechanical. Below is the one room school house with our guide holding up the US flag with 48 stars.

It is well worth the price of admission and there are more things to see then there is room here to list them.

After that it was back to the camp ground to relax. As this was our last night we headed out to "The Hearth" restaurant for supper. Great place and food.

After supper we headed over for one last look at the toy hauler we fell in love with and to say goodbye to Mike the sales rep who we have spent some time with discussing this trailer.

WHAT ARE WE UP TO TODAY?
August 10th,2014

We are still here at Silver Creek RV Resort, we do enjoy our time here. We have done some site seeing since I last wrote. Our friends, Nancy and Ken and us took a drive on Sunday thru Pentwater, a small town not far away and to a local winery " Jomagrha" which we found last year when we were here. Purchased a couple of bottles of wine.

Ken and Pat toasting and tasting, John one of the owners waiting for the results.

After that we drove up to Manistee and had lunch at sandwich/deli shop, very good. Then returned back to our camp site but not before a stop to check out the toy haulers again, especially the one model. We have really taken a liking to the Vengeance Touring Edition. We think it would be a great trailer to fit the full time RVing lifestyle.

Monday saw Ken and I head to Ludington to the Ford dealer to look at new trucks and get straight on the towing capabilities of them. It proved to be a worthwhile drive. We headed back and picked up the girls for drive down to Muskegon to Lakeshore RV to look at toy haulers on their lot. A big dealership with lots of different makers and models. I have to say, I wasn't impressed by some of the manufactures that I thought would be better then they were. We stopped at the Vengeance dealer on the way back and told him so, still like theirs best.

Tuesday brought a day of rain, so we had a relaxing day of reading, napping and a little TV. The rain quit in time to fire up the BBQ and have steak for supper. The evening was spent watching TV as it was to cool and damp for a camp fire, the first night we haven't had on.

I think were caught up on most of our time here. To day, Wednesday we are taking Ken and Nancy to the Hart Historical Museum, which we found our first year here. Will add some pics later. Tomorrow is check out and we head for home.

Until the next time, take care.

WHAT ARE WE UP TO TODAY?
August 12th, 2014

Since I last wrote we have been enjoying our time here at Silver Creek RV Resort and the surrounding area. I must confess that I need to get better at remembering to take my camera along and use it.
Friday saw Pat and I head out to get a few groceries in the town of Hart at Hansens Market. On our way back to the to the camp ground we stopped at an new RV dealer, "Fun-N-Sun, that had set up nearby since we were here last year. They had a couple of Toy Haulers that we wanted to have a look at.

This is the one we like, I say we because before this, Pat didn't like Toy Haulers at all. It has a nice layout and features.

Living area and kitchen.
It's nice to look and pipe dream.

The rest of the day was just relaxing, even went for a dip in the pool. No pic of that, but I'm sure one will follow before we leave here. Stay tuned for more of our stay here and our adventures.
Thanks for stopping by, until the next time, take care.

Silver Creek RV Resort

WHAT ARE WE UP TO TODAY?
August 10th 2014
Today we are set up in Silver Creek RV Resort Site 101, in Mears/ Silver Lake Mi. This is our third year coming to this great spot. We left home, London, On., at 6:20 am Thursday and arrived here at 2:30 pm that day. It was a good drive with moderate traffic most of the way. We made a couple of rest stops along the way and a stop at Camping World in Grand Rapids to make a few purchases. One being a folding bike for me, Pat got hers last year. We also bought an extend a pole to reach the air vent in the ceiling of the trailer, along with a few other things.
I went about installing the extend a rod to the air vent by standing on a step stool one on top of another. Pat insisted on holding one of them so it didn't fall . The top step stool gave way and down I came and the step stool crashed into her nose, not a pretty sight. So off we went to the local hospital to get her checked out. Xray shows possible nasal crack but hard to say for sure. Ibuprofen and ice is the treatment and oh yes sunglasses.

By the time we got back from the hospital, our friends from north of Chicago had arrived. We met them here 3 years ago and have booked the same time every year since. They arrived with a new trailer also.

Thanks for stopping by, until the next time, take care.

WHAT ARE WE UP TO TODAY?

I could do a day by day post of what we did all weekend but that would get pretty boring. There is an exciting part to the weekend and that is the piece of property that Donna and Gerry have purchased not far from their property where we camp called " The Acreage ". This new piece of property has been named "The Habitat". It is an investment property as it was purchased for a steal. They have offered it to us to use when we go full time as our summer home. It needs a lot of work but has great potential.
When the guys were all together the weekend before we went over and cleared the lane out so we could drive back to the clearing.

On the Tuesday  and Wednesday following all of us leaving, Donna and Gerry had someone come in with a bush hog and cut down a lot of the tall grass in the lane and the field. Here are some pics of after the cutting.

They have accomplished a lot in a short time with lots to do yet, all in good time. We are excited and can't wait to get back up to see it.

Well that's about it for now, until the next time, take care and thanks for stopping by.

WHAT ARE WE UP TO TODAY?

The August Long Weekend ( Civic Holiday ) Pat's sister and brother-in-law invite family and friends up to their property near Durham for the weekend. There are a couple of cabins that can be used or bring your tent, trailer, motor home or van to sleep in.  As with anytime that we come here, it is a very laid back relaxing time. You can read, do cross words, swim, float around in the rubber rafts, play horseshoes, go for a walk or bike ride, just about anything you want.

As I was on Holidays this past week, we decided that I would take Pat to work Thursday morning and pick her up at 4:30 and head right on up to the acreage, (she has Fridays off in the summer). On our way we had a call from Donna and Gerry asking what our ETA was. We said around 7pm and we wanted to stop in Durham at the Riverside Fish & Chips for supper. They said that they would meet us there and join us. Great place and very reasonable prices. After that we headed out to the acreage got the truck unloaded as we left the 5th wheel here last weekend. Spent some time chatting until ten pm. then headed in for the night. Great start to the weekend, now we can sit back and see who all can make it for this get together.

Thanks for stopping by, till the next time, take care.
